Today is Ash Wednesday. Hubs and I grew up Catholic. But, in our teen years we both started going to church less and less. Eventually, we stopped going. We’ve agreed that we would raise our children in church until they are old enough to decide on their own. Early this year we both felt strongly that our relationship with God wasn’t what we wanted it to be, so we started going to church again. We’ve found a church near by and go every other week (baby steps). Anyhow, today is the start of Lent. I’ve decided this year that I am not only going to give something up for Lent, but I’m going to do something positive. Deciding what to give up was very difficult. There are things I don’t do enough to give up, like drink soda, eat fast food, ice cream, cookies, pasta, etc. And…there are some things that were out of the question like wine, coffee and carbs. I honestly really wanted to do wine/ alcohol but we have lots of weddings and wedding events in the next 40 days. I’m not going to set myself up for failure. So, I’ve decided to give up candy. All candy. Even chocolate candy. It’s going to be hard, especially at work! But, I know I can do it and D is giving up candy too. Now, for the positive. I’m going to start a prayer journal. I’ve been wanting to start one for a bit now and there’s no better time than now. I’m going to devote at least 15 minutes of uninterrupted time each night to the journal. I love the format of this journal I found online.
