Wednesday was the beginning of Lent. D and I were both raised catholic. Each year I give up something and last year I also decided to change things up a bit. I gave up candy but I also decided to do something positive, which was start a prayer journal. It’s been MUCH harder for me to think about what to give up this year. Which is one of the reasons this post is a few days late. You see here are some of the things I would typically think to give up:
coffee…
wine…
staying up past 11…
sweets…
Starbucks…
BUT…thanks to the little one ( that continues to make me sick everyday), I’ve already given all of those up. So, I thought long and hard about something that would be challenging for me not to have. I thought of blogging, Facebook, Pinterest, TV, etc. But being home sick most of the time, I need SOMETHING to keep me busy. So here is what I decided…
I am going to give up fast food, specifically Chick fil a and Dunkin Donuts for Lent. I’m not usually a fast food eater. I’ve gone years without eating it. But, since I’ve been sick with this pregnancy it’s one of the things I want. Most of the time, the only thing I want. Salty, greasy carbs somehow calm my stomach. I’ve eaten chick fil a probably 5-6 times since I’ve been pregnant and it’s 5-6 times too many. I’ve also stopped at Dunkin Donuts over 10 times for a bagel and iced tea. Even though it’s not as bad for you, I don’t need it. I can easily save money and make a bagel at home. So, there you have it. I know I can do this for the next 40 days.
Now, for the positive. I will send a sweet note to a friend or family member each day. Whether it’s an email, text or a hand written card. It will be my way to show the ones I love that I’m thinking about them.
What did you give up for Lent?

First, congrats on your pregnancy! I hope you start feeling better soon.
I give up shopping every year for Lent. The only items I can buy are necessities like groceries. This year I am having a hard time deciding if I should give it up completely, because since we had our daughter in November, all I do is shop for her. Should that count? Decisions, decisions…
I gave up Chik Fil A too! Its going to be really hard for me! Congrats on your pregnancy!
Hope that your little one finds some peace in there so you stop feeling so sick… Good luck giving up the Chik Fil A! I don't know if I could π
The positive notes sounds like a great thing to be doing…
good for you! this is one of the first years I am not giving up anything.
Last year I gave up sodas and I have also given up chicken. I love chicken and eat it almost once a day at least.
I have a friend who is writing a letter a day to someone who has impacted her life. I love that idea and what you are doing π
just found your blog. love it! i'm your newest follower π
