I love having painted nails. I hate how quick they chip.
Before the baby, I regularly treated myself to mani’s and pedi’s.
Now that I’m not working I can’t justify spending so much money on myself each month.
I started painting my own nails soon after AG was born, when I wanted to feel “pretty” again. First, I had to find a time that I’d be able to get a full 30 minutes of hands off time to be able to paint and let the polish dry. Which is of course difficult with a new baby. Then I would get annoyed when the polish would chip in no time because I wash my hands more than I ever have before.
Thankfully, thanks to an IG picture someone shared, I found a solution.
A do it at home gel nail kit
About a month ago I ordered the Sensationnail Starter Kit with red polish. They sell Sensationnail at Target and Walmart (for $50) but I bought mine from Drugstore.com for $35.00 including shipping (on sale). If you use Ebates, make sure to login before purchasing because you get 12% back for Drugstore.com. You should be able to do your nails 10 times with everything in the starter kit.
I followed all of the directions that came with the kit. I made sure to do it when D was home and in a well ventilated area. Immediately, I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was. It only took me 30 minutes to do. For me the real test was how long it would last and the difficulty taking it off. I included some pictures below of how the polish held up. It lasted the full two weeks, even through all the holiday baking! When I took it off, I filled a bowl with hot water. Then I put some acetone in a ramekin and placed it on top of the hot water. I soaked my nails for less than 5 minutes and was able to scrape all the polish off easily. The entire take off, including buffing and filing afterwards was 21 minutes.
At that point I was sold. This is definitely a must have product.
Here’s how it looked just after it was done.
After 1 week
I picked at one spot but other than that, it held up great.
Noticeably grown out but in great condition
I also tried regular polish with it last week. I used the clear Sensationnail coat and cured (placed under light). Then I painted the regular polish, giving 2 coats. I made sure to let it dry completely. Then, I used 2 coats of the clear coat (curing in between and after). I’ve had it on for a week and a half and it’s still going strong. It took a little more time to do initially but using my own colors makes it worth it.
So there you have it. I bought it. I used it for a month. I love it. I just had to share it with you.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
These opinions are 100% my own.
