Week two of summer is here. I’m happy to see last week behind us. L had a cold early in the week and passed it to AG, so we weren’t able to get out and about at the end of the week. This week we’re starting the week healthy and looking forward to a week full of fun.
Contact Paper Flowers: I’m planning on doing something similar to this one here, but I’ll be giving AG small pieces of tissue paper instead of sequins.
Book Cooks: The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle. The food fun for today will be an Eggo waffle flower. The waffle is the base, strawberries make a flower design on top, some chocolate chips in the center, celery for the stem and green apple pieces for the leaves. You can see the inspiration for our creation here and make sure to follow along on Instagram (leah.herring) to see how ours turns out.
Toddler Car Wash: AG has two toy cars she drives around the house all. day. long. If you were to come over, you’d probably find L chasing her around in his walker. It’s their favorite activity. For the summer fun activity, I’ll set up a bunch of sponges outside with buckets of water for her to wash her cars. I’ll also have some towels to dry them when she’s all finished!
Rainbow Scavenger Hunt: My plan is to put a color sticker on a white paper bag. AG will be able to run around the house and find items that she can put in each bag to match the colors. To make this more fun, I’ll put some music on and set a timer for 5 minutes. When the timer stops, she’ll count the number of items in each bag and identify each color. For older kids, this rainbow scavenger hunt looks like a lot of fun.
Park Playdate: We’ll be out and about on Friday with friends at the park. There also may Chick-fil-a involved and ice cream too!
Here is a reminder of what each activity is each day:
Monday: arts & crafts: get out the glue, glitter and construction paper! Let your littles create, make a mess and then display their masterpieces.
Tuesday: book cooks: this is something I was a part of while I was teaching. pick a book to read and do a fun activity with food afterwards that goes with the book.
Wednesday: water fun: get outside and play in the water, blow bubbles, throw water balloons or go swimming. Beat the heat with water fun.
Thursday: abc & 123: one of the most important things parents can do for their children over the summer is continue with learning activities and reading. Lots and lots of reading. This is the day for focused learning activities. Think about what your child needs to work on and see what fun activities you can find. AG is working on colors, letters and numbers. You’ll see lots of our learning activities this summer focused on those three things. I also should note that reading should be happening every day, no matter the age of your child.
Friday: fun Friday: get out and have fun! go to the zoo, aquarium, bounce house, library, children’s museum or host a fun playdate. Friday kicks off the weekend, make it fun and tire those kiddos out!
